Setting up, connecting on the go, reporting errors
Try it without a server
On first start, tap “Try without a server”. The app then starts built-in demo services on your phone: an Unraid server, SABnzbd, Sonarr, Radarr, Plex and more, with made-up data. Nothing leaves the phone. You end demo mode at the top of the home screen.
Setting up services
In the app under “Settings › Server connections”, enter each service's address on your home network (for example http://192.168.1.10:8989) and, where needed, its API key. “Test” checks the connection right away.
| Service | Where to find the API key |
|---|---|
| Unraid (7.2+) | Settings › Management Access › API Keys › Create (role “admin” for all functions) |
| SABnzbd | Config › General › API Key |
| Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr | Settings › General › API Key |
| Seerr / Jellyseerr | Settings › General › API Key |
| Tautulli | Settings › Web Interface › API Key |
| Plex | X-Plex-Token: open Plex in a browser › on a movie “…” › Get Info › “View XML” › the address contains X-Plex-Token=… |
| Netdata, Scrutiny | no key needed, just the address |
NASlab agent
For history around the clock (temperatures, CPU, disk activity) and features such as home network, duplicates or disk prices, install the small NASlab agent as a container on your NAS. It is free (source code publicly viewable), only reads and changes nothing. Step by step for Unraid, TrueNAS SCALE, Synology and Docker: Install the agent. The container log shows the token on first start.
Connecting on the go
The safest way is a VPN to your home, for example WireGuard (in Unraid under Settings › VPN Manager) or Tailscale. Then the same addresses work as at home and you don't open anything to the internet. Outside the home network the app allows unencrypted connections (http) only through a VPN.
Frequently asked questions
“Service unreachable”
Is the container running? Are you on the home network or connected via VPN? Is the port right? “More › Error log” explains each error and what helps.
Does the app cost anything?
No. Only the optional AI assistant needs your own API key, from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT) or Google (Gemini); the provider bills you directly. A ChatGPT subscription is not enough; Gemini has a free tier with limits. The app shows roughly what each conversation cost.
Are my passwords safe?
They are encrypted in the Android keystore on your phone and excluded from the cloud backup. The app only sends them to the service they belong to.
Does the app download movies or series?
No. NASlab is a remote control for programs you run yourself. It contains no content and no sources.
Which languages?
English and German. By default the phone's language; change it under “Settings › Appearance › Language”.
Reporting errors
In the app open “More › Error log” and tap “Export”. The text file contains errors and crash locations, but no keys or passwords. Send it with a short note on what you were doing.
